Text des Titelliedes von LIMAHL

Turn around, look at what you see
In her face, the mirror of your dreams
Make believe I'm everywhere, living in your eyes
Written on the pages is the answer to our neverending story

Reach the stars, fly a fantasy
Dream a dream, and what you see will be
Lives that keep their secrets will unfold behind the clouds
And there upon the rainbow is the answer to our neverending story

Show no fear, for she may fade away
In your hand, the birth of a new day
Lives that keep their secrets will unfold behind the clouds
And there upon the rainbow is the answer to our neverending story

Kommentare

Grzegorz aus Polen:
The NeverEnding Story II score shares the poor success of the film. The music is rather harsh and conveys terribly pathetic mood. Robert Folk made the whole theme excessively grave. In addition, he resolved to employ a howling female choir that effectively drowns out the music and thereby spoils the whole atmosphere.
Despite the lousy score, however, the album features three excellent songs composed by Giorgio Moroder. Each song is remarkably stimulating and varied in rhyme and rhythm. Once again he proved his genuine talent and unfailing capability of feeling for the atmosphere of this particular film.
1. Searching For Fantasia
This is the track that opens the film. It begins with serene music which is later accompanied by female choir that hums quietly in the background. It's probably one of the best, if not the best, instrumental tracks on this CD. The choir doesn't try to dominate at all, but rather assimilates with the music, which makes a very nice and dashing atmosphere.
2. Dreams We Dream
The title song corresponds with the actual plot of the film. This is an excellent theme with remarkable music and ingenious lyrics. Not only does it herald the continuation of the story, but also reminds us of the great power of our dreams, especially as it treats of escaping from reality into the world of fantasy in quest of hope and courage.
3. Heaven's Just A Heartbeat
It may seem that this song was added just in order to supplement the soundtrack album (only the final chorus was used in the film). Nevertheless, the lyrics perfectly fit the climate of the film. The music is very soothing and along with the vocals makes somewhat of a dreamy atmosphere. In fact, it's a very beautiful ballad about the transient nature of life, unforseeable fate and need of love.
4. The Neverending Story
Joe Milner's version of Limahl's song. Although it lacks all those additional features that Limahl's version has - like, for example, the wind whistles that we won't find here, the whole song is much more lively.
5. Dreams We Dream (Instrumental)
It doesn't seem to be exactly the instrumental version of track (2). It's a bit longer and differs here and there a little, but on the whole hears very neatly and smoothly.
6. Bastian's Dream
Quite a soothing track that lets your mind trace back into the past. Worth noticing are the piano sequences which describe, so to speak, misty pictures from a dream.
7. Falkor's Quest
Starts with a flute sequence and, after a while, a female choir appears. The track seems to illustrate some kind of wandering, although the mood is at times too grave. The choir appears in the end (very unbearable part!). The ending was probably intended to be triumphant but, as it develops further, we have the impression of someth.
8. Flight Of The Dragon
Absolutely weird piece of music. The initial sequences could possibly illustrate a knights' duel. Further on, it develops in such a way that you don't know what it really is to describe, as it seems to illustrate a scene in which the scared characters flee from imminent calamity. In the end the music softens and quietens.
9. Silver Mountains
Sounds not quite neat. Can it describe mountain landscapes? Hard to say. A person who listens to this track out of context is sure to admit that the music is not the most appropriate to describe any kind of landscape.
10. Morning In Fantasia
Morning is usually associated with sunrise, and sunrise could definietly be illustrated in a different way. The track is too harsh and dramatic - as if it described a horserace (at least the final seconds before reaching the finish). The choir dominates the mood and it spoils the whole beauty of the music. To say the truth, the music is overwhelmed by the howling female choir. Brr, dreadful effect.
11. The Childlike Empress
Well, this music doesn't resemble the one from the track "Die kindliche Kaiserin" from the first CD. On the whole, it's quiet and calm, but here and there percussion sequences interrupt the pleasant mood.
12. The Giants' Attack
It's supposed to be an attack - well, we have it. Yet, it's hard to notice any scheme here (no gradually increasing tension). The music strikes like falling bricks, nothing is orderly sequenced. However, the track is quite appropriate to illustrate a fight - especially a very dynamic one that develops and culminates in no time at all.
13. Silver Lake
The beginning is rather dull, later the tempo gradually slows down and you can really have the impression of sailing into a calm, crystal lake. Yet, like other tracks, it is also overly soaked up with dramatic elements (percussion). We have both choir and flute sequences that alternate each other - quite pleasant feeling.
14. Xayide's Castle
A very mysterious beginning, the tension gradually rises. Indeed, it illustrates something ominous - which can surely be the Xayide's castle, but in general, the track conveys rather unpleasant sound for the ear and nervous system.
15. Atreyu's Return To The Great Plains
It starts with a choir. The music can hardly tell you what kind of scene it could be. The choir reappears several times, but we can also observe some features of track (8) when it illustrates, say, a kind of escape. After 2 minutes the music calms down (flute and choir sequences appear), but it makes the impression as if you were in a church during a requiem mass. All in all, very strange track, like many others on this CD.
16. Bastian's Lost Memories
A very pleasant track. The choir hums in the background and doesn't drown out the music. This makes it sound somewhat melancholic. Surely, it can illustrate something lost, especially something precious - like memories. Beside the opening track, this one is my favourite.
17. Silver City
Here, again we have something dramatic in tone, the choir tries to reveal itself from the background, but it is effectively drowned out by percussion sequences. The other half of the track is dominated by the choir, but it doesn't sound pleasant at all. In the end the female choir starts to howl terribly and it spoils the whole image of the instrumental part.
18. The Neverending Story (Reprise)
An interesting instrumental remake of the title song. Choir appears in the second half, but it doesn't make a good impression. It rather howls than hums and drowns out the instrumentals.

Für Demo-Mpegs mailt Grzegorz.
